Wise Business accounts are tailor made for international businesses, and offer high limits on transactions so you can send, spend and receive incoming payments conveniently.

There’s usually no limit on the amount of Canadian dollars you can receive, or hold in your Wise Business account. You can also send high value payments up to 1.5 million CAD - or 1 million USD if you deal in US dollars for example.

However, it’s good to know that some limits do still exist to keep customers and their funds safe and to comply with local and international legislation. This guide covers all you need to know.

Understanding your Wise Business account limits 🔎

It’s very common for financial service providers like Wise Business to use some account limits to help keep customer accounts and money safe.

⚖️For business customers in particular it’s important to have limits which allow the types of high value transactions which companies need to make, while also balancing account security considerations. Limits can sometimes be increased by adding security and verification steps to your account, or by providing additional paperwork to support your transaction.

Holding limits for Wise Business account

If you have a Wise Business account registered in Canada there’s not usually any limit to the amount you can hold in your Wise currencies.

Wise Business spending limits and card usage 💳

Wise Business offers debit and expense cards which you and your team can use to manage low cost business spending effectively.

Account owners can set their own limits per cardholder to keep track of spending, and view transactions in the Wise app. This helps you keep control of your business cash flow, while giving your team the tools they need to do their job.

Wise Business debit and expense cards have spending and ATM withdrawal limits which you can view and adjust in the Wise app. There’s a daily limit that resets at midnight every day, and a monthly limit which resets on the first day of the month.

As a default the monthly and daily limit are the same, but you’re able to change these to keep control of your spending in the way that works best for you.

Managing your expense card spending limits ⚙️

There are several different limits which you can use on your Wise Business cards to manage spending:

  • Account limits which apply on overall spending and withdrawal from the account - these are mandatory

  • Cardholder limits when you issue debit cards to others - this caps how much each team member can spend and withdraw across all their cards, and is mandatory for some team members

  • Limits per card - set by the cardholders individually and an optional tool for additional spending controls

As the account owner you’ll be able to set limits yourself or give this task to another trusted team member. You can always change and view limits in the Wise app as and when you need to.

How to increase your Wise Business account limits 📈

You won’t usually need to take any action in advance if you’re receiving a large CAD payment using your Wise CAD account details, as there is no limit on the amount you can receive.

However, in some cases you may be asked by Wise to provide some additional information about the transfer for security, after the payment has been sent. This usually means giving Wise some information about the reason for the payment and who the sender is. This is for security - learn more about Wise receiving limits here.
